The Haunted Youth
As the FOH engineer of The Haunted Youth, I toured with the band across Europe and was at the forefront of all the incredible memories we created along the way. What began as a band with a basic setup quickly evolved into a more complex and challenging project as they pushed to innovate their sound. Joachim was determined to bring his unique sound—crafted over years of writing songs in his bedroom—to the stage. He wanted those sounds to be replicated faithfully, if not amplified and enhanced, during live performances. Initially, we toured with the same setup Joachim used in his home studio. However, after a year of intense traveling, the old synths began to fail us. As we prepared for our first fly-in shows, I realized we needed a more compact and reliable keyboard setup. Together with Cis Van Robaeys, we recreated Hanne’s setup as closely as possible, but with one major change: we transitioned from hardware synths to Ableton. This shift opened up a world of new technical and creative possibilities. Beyond supporting the band’s gear on stage, I also focused on making our audio setup as efficient as possible. Efficiency is crucial for our team. We strive to ensure that every creative idea is technically feasible, as even a small technical issue can cost us significant time. So keep it simple, keep it good.
